Not just shoes
Dancers need items that they can use in the studio, while still being sustainable. Reform Dance Solutions provides dancers with eco-friendly activewear, and other essential materials for rehearsals. Items like bags, muscle rollers, knee and foot supports, toe pads, and water bottles, are just a few of the items outside of shoes and activewear that Reform Dance Solutions produces in a sustainable, eco-friendly way.

graphic Assets, icons, and patterns
Each asset is hand-drawn digitally, using a textured brush to give the assets a more organic feel. I used a color blocking style, where assets are either blocked with two distinct colors, or are filled in with up to six colors to give more dimension to an object to make it stand out. These were used on packaging, stickers, and within the UI design for the app.

The icons drawn specifically for the app are highlighted in blue, these icons are line art icons, to match the lines within the dance notation assets and patterns.

Patterns
These graphics and patterns are inspired by Beauchamp–Feuillet dance notation—a system developed in the late 17th century to visually record baroque dance steps. Each symbol mapped out footwork and movement patterns, turning choreography into a beautiful, codified language.
Stickers and taglines
These stickers are made to use on packaging, and to promote Reform, in a bold and simple way. The first sticker is used to seal the packaging while it is being shipped, and the second is a classic shoe-size sticker that provides all of the information about the shoes.

The taglines "sustainability in every step," "remade to last," and "I help reform the world!" were developed for this project, as a way to highlight the positive impacts of recycled dance wear. Not only are the products sustainable and good for the environment, but they are durable, and heighten performance quality.

Most of my old turning shoes from growing up!

Why Reform dance solutions?
I grew up dancing competitively, and I always saw how much waste comes out of the dance industry from a young age. My teammates and I would go through turning shoes very quickly, causing us to wear-through up to eight pairs in a season. I always thought there could be a better solution for the amount of shoe waste in the industry.

When it came time to decide what I wanted to do for my senior Capstone project at RIT, I knew that this was something that I was very passionate about. My goal for this project was to highlight how sustainability can be used to enhance performance, and that there should be a place for all types of dance shoes to be recycled and given a new life.

The dance industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, with great amounts of harmful waste practices. This project was my way of telling the community that I love, that there can be better ways to produce things for dancers.
